Polarized Fermi gases

چکیده
Recently, two experiments, reported in Science[1, 2], have studied a polarized ultra-cold degenerate Fermi gas. This is a very new area that has attracted a great amount of interest from widely varying fields ranging from condensed matter physics, atomic molecular and optical physics, to particle and astro physics. As polarized Fermi gases have been demonstrated to be stable near the resonance, they offer an opportunity to investigate new forms of superfluidity that might exist in neutron stars. An experimental program in ultra-cold fermionic Li near a Feshbach resonance is underway at the SUT node of ACQAO. The work described here provides theoretical support for possible experimental investigations of new forms of superfluidity near the Feshbach resonance.

Phase Diagram of a Polarized Fermi Gas
The polarized Fermi gas, which has recently been realized in ultra-cold atomic gases where the number of atoms in the two spin states is different, has attracted many experimental and theoretical works. This paper introduces the phase diagram of the polarized Fermi gas at T = 0 and at finite temperature as well. Open questions that haven’t been solved are pointed out and available experiments a...
متن کاملCollisional properties of a polarized Fermi gas with resonant interactions.
Highly polarized mixtures of atomic Fermi gases constitute a novel Fermi liquid. We demonstrate how information on thermodynamic properties may be used to calculate quasiparticle scattering amplitudes even when the interaction is resonant and apply the results to evaluate the damping of the spin dipole mode. We estimate that under current experimental conditions the mode would be intermediate b...
متن کاملInduced P-wave superfluidity in asymmetric fermi gases.
We show that two new intraspecies P-wave superfluid phases appear in two-component asymmetric Fermi systems with short-range S-wave interactions. In the BEC limit, phonons of the molecular BEC induce P-wave superfluidity in the excess fermions. In the BCS limit, density fluctuations induce P-wave superfluidity in both the majority and the minority species. These phases may be realized in experi...
متن کاملTrapped Fermi gases
Trapped degenerate atomic gases provide exciting opportunities for the manipulation and quantitative study of quantum statistical effects, such as the strikingly direct observation of Bose-Einstein condensation @1–3#. Although perhaps not as dramatic as the phase transition associated with bosons, the behavior of trapped Fermi gases also merits attention, both as a degenerate quantum system in ...
متن کاملFinite-temperature phase diagram of a spin-polarized ultracold Fermi gas in a highly elongated harmonic trap
We investigate the finite-temperature properties of an ultracold atomic Fermi gas with spin population imbalance in a highly elongated harmonic trap. Previous studies at zero temperature showed that the gas stays in an exotic spatially inhomogeneous Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov FFLO superfluid state at the trap center; while moving to the edge, the system changes into either a nonpolarized ...
